Stunning dog friendly cottages near York
Fantastic location, accommodation and hosts! This was our first trip away since the beginning of lockdown and it was exactly what the doctor ordered. Beautiful surroundings, helpful and thoughtful hosts (Lindsay and Elaine) and 100% dog friendly. Cozy Cottage was our base for four nights, it was spotlessly clean and very well equipped with all the things you need in a home away from home, including a little welcome pack of bread milk and butter. We planned and packed for eating in, not knowing what would be open locally due to the pandemic, and the well-equipped kitchen didn't disappoint. There was also a BBQ and dining area in the gorgeous gated courtyard garden, sadly the weather wasn't on our side but it was nice to have the option and somewhere to sit and relax outdoors. The cottage lived up to its name, it really was cosy, with 2 big sofas to snuggle up on and a big comfy bed; it really is so peaceful and quiet you're bound to sleep well. Bertie (the dog) really enjoyed her stay too and was greeted with her own mat and bowl. She especially loved running free in the paddocks around the farm and her highlight has to be running and playing with Rudy (resident pooch). We did venture out and about and visited some of the places recommended by our hosts including Fraisthorpe Beach (dog-friendly all year), York city centre, The Balloon Tree Farm Shop and we even managed to squeeze in an 8 mile walk around Castle Howard. We also walked from Holtby into Dunnington (45mins) to the Cross Keys pub for a cheeky drink one evening. It really was a lovely break away from the maddening crowd, we'll certainly be back! Top tip: if you're not sure where to go or what to do during your stay ask Lindsay and Elaine, they gave us loads of suggestions and shared links and info with us before our stay so we could plan ahead. Final note: it's also worth mentioning that we had been provided with info regarding the contactless check-in and additional cleaning measures that had been put in place due to Coronavirus which was all very reassuring.
